Interpreting is oral translation, during a conference or a meeting, in real time.

There are four types of interpreting, each of them adapted to very specific needs. With this brief explanation, you will be able to choose the one that best suits your needs.

Liaison interpreting is very adequate for bilateral meetings. A very clear example would be meetings between two heads of state in which there is always an interpreter acting as a real “communication bridge” between them.

Consecutive interpreting is perfect for workshops, seminars or brief meetings. In those cases, the interpreter –through note taking– translates the speaker, who will stop with a certain frequency to let the interpreter talk. For this type of interpreting, it is necessary to allow for double the amount of time, since the same speech is given twice in two different languages.

Simultaneous interpreting is clearly the quicker and more convenient type of interpreting. It is also the newest type, since it was used for the first time during the Nuremberg Trials (after the Second World War). In this case, you will need booths, audio equipment and headphones for the audience. The interpreter will translate at the same time as the speaker is giving their speech, so no time will be lost in listening to the same speech twice.

Chuchotage is the perfect choice when there is only one person who cannot understand the language of the meeting. In this case, the interpreter sits beside that person and whispers everything which is being said. In fact, it works as simultaneous interpreting, but without the equipment.

Translation is the transfer from one language to another of a written text.

Proof-reading is the final check of a text before its publication in order to ensure cohesion and coherence, and the absence of grammatical mistakes and typos.

General Translations: translations with no difficulty in terms of terminology or content;

Specialized Translations: technical translations;

Sworn Translations: legal translations needing the official stamp and signature of a sworn translator;

Proofreading: stylistic and typographic.

Besides working as a professional interpreter and translator, I also organise teams of interpreters and translators in order to respond to the multilingual needs of each client. In the interpreting area, I also manage the technical part (booths, audio equipment…) so that the client does not have to worry about anything.
